SHINJUKU ART CLUB
updated March 30,2004
Shinjuku, which is called the new center of Tokyo, has been growing to a great modern city, since Tokyo Metropolitan Office moved to it and the New Subway OEDO line was set up and started its business.
Shinjuku, though it is modernized, has still a number of old shops and houses that are in contrast to high-rise buildings standing against the sky.
This view is called Shinjuku's peculiar feature and we thought it should be left in pictures to the later ages.
By reason of it, we have organized a painting group, SHINJUKU ART CLUB in April of 1995, and started to paint the landscapes of Shinjuku on sketch books or canvases on Saturday or Sunday in every month.
When the New Subway OEDO Line was set up and started its business in December 2000, we were possible to extend the field of our activity, and at present, we are painting the landscapes in Tokyo other than Shinjuku's.
We regularly display our pictures in this public gallery so that many people may see and enjoy them.
Besides the activity mentioned above, we make trips to the cities in Japan or foreign countries, and have cultural exchange with people who lived there. Shinjuku has concluded friendship treaty with some domestic and foreign cities, and we have visited them and enjoyed communication and cultural exchange.
